Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is reportedly ready to recall club record signing Romelu Lukaku for Wednesday’s match against Tottenham following positive talks with the striker following an unauthorized interview he granted.
The Belgium international was dropped from the entire first-team squad for Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool due to an interview he gave to Sky Sport Italia last Thursday, which aired on Thursday, in which he stated his dissatisfaction with Tuchel.
Tuchel confirmed on Sunday night that he would speak with Lukaku, and the Belgium international was among the players who trained at Chelsea’s Cobham HQ on Monday ahead of his showdown meeting with the Blues boss.
The talks on Monday were said to be positive after Lukaku expressed regret for the interview, paving the way for the player’s reintroduction into the first-team squad.
Tuchel will announce his decision on whether to recall Lukaku for Wednesday’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final against arch London rivals Tottenham, a game that will mark former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s first return to Stamford Bridge since leaving the club in the summer of 2018.
