The Top 10 richest people in the world added $402 billion to their already enormous fortunes in 2021, with Tesla CEO Elon Musk being the biggest gainer.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Elon Musk began 2021 with a net worth of $156 billion and ended the year with a net worth of around $277 billion. In December, the Space X founder stated that he intends to pay more than $11 billion in taxes.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index is a daily ranking of the world’s wealthiest individuals, with figures updated at the end of each trading day in New York.

Jeff Bezos, Musk’s closest competitor, entered 2022 worth $190 billion, gaining $4.5 billion more than he did in 2020.

Bezos, 57, stepped down as CEO of Amazon in July.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, is also on the list, having added nearly $25 billion to his fortune in 2020. According to Bloomberg, he is worth $128 billion. Zuckerberg added 110 acres to his contentious 1,500-acre estate in Kauai, Hawaii.

Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, is also on the list and began 2022 worth $139 billion. He arrived in 2021 with a net worth of $132 billion. His ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, who divorced Bill after 27 years in August, reportedly has a net worth of $11.4 billion.

Larry Page, the co-founder of Google, added $47 billion to his $83 billion fortune in 2021. Sergey Brin, another Google co-founder, is now worth $125 billion, thanks to a $45 billion gain in 2021.

Bernard Arnault, a French luxury goods seller, saw his fortune rise to $176 billion after earning more than $61 billion. He is the only non-US billionaire to make Bloomberg’s top ten list of total wealth in 2021.

Each of those ten power players is worth more than $100 billion. Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the 11th richest person on the list, is worth nearly $94 billion. According to Bloomberg, she is the wealthiest woman alive.
