The late Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s body has arrived at St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, where it will be laid to rest for two days.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner who helped bring South Africa’s apartheid system to an end died on Sunday, December 26, at the age of 90.
After the lying-in-state period, his remains will be laid to rest on January 1st, allowing mourners to file past his body and say their final goodbyes.
As Tutu’s simple wooden coffin was carried into the cathedral, priests burned incense. Leah Tutu, Tutu’s widow, walked slowly behind the coffin as it entered his former parish.
