Breaking away from porn addiction does not happen overnight, nor does the mere confession of change lead to any tangible results.

In this article, I provide practical yet easy-to-follow ways to deal with porn addiction, the critical effects of porn on the mind and body, and why you need to be conscious of the need to salvage yourself from the doldrums of watching and enjoying the nakedness of other people.

There are actually two ways of dealing with porn addiction:

  1. Mental Conviction: If you can tune off your mind from all porn-related materials and activities, you are on the path to breaking free from your addiction.
  2. Physical effort: Making a conscious attempt every day to overcome porn addiction will happen faster than you could ever imagine.

Practical Ways of Breaking Free From Porn Addiction

1, Deal with your mind

Your mind is the storehouse for all your choices and decisions. Thus, if you can deal with what your mind must focus on, you are actually helping yourself on the journey to breaking away from porn addiction.

Remember, everything begins in the mind. What you think about, visualize, and imagine is what your heart will pursue. In dealing with porn addiction, you need to help your mind refocus on more important and engaging things.

Pornography is a particular battle because, in some ways, you can’t escape it. Even if you are locked in a room with no access to the internet, books, or television, you can still deal with pornography by simply going inside your thoughts. The fight for your thoughts was by far the most difficult and time-consuming aspect of my path to freedom.

 

2. Make porn watching inconvenient for you.

You are the only one who knows how and why you got access to pornography. You already know what makes it easier for you to get there without even thinking about it.

You can hack into your computer or phone and disable the private browser as part of the journey. Then set your phone’s limits so that adult material requires a passcode.

Try to keep your phone and computer out of the bedroom so you won’t be tempted to use them while you’re bored. Other options, such as reading or journaling, became more convenient as a result, and they also helped me develop stronger coping abilities.

Make a mental note of your usual habits. What kind of stumbling hurdles can you erect to halt the progression? Here are some suggestions:

  • Restrictions should be enabled on your phone.
  • In public areas, use technology.
  • Decide to keep your computer, phone, or iPad out of your bedroom.
  • Install a filter on the internet.
  • Remove your headphones so that everyone can hear what you’re playing.

 

3, Consciously change your habits 

You’ll have a better understanding of what drives you to pornography once you’ve made satisfying your struggle less convenient. What are the things that make you do it if it’s not a brain-dead habit and more of a conscious decision?

Everyone’s triggers are different. When we are seduced and drawn away by our lusts, we watch porn. That is a matter of personal preference.

What you are triggered by may or may not be triggered by others. Triggers can be emotionally charged for some people.

They’re situational for some. Your triggers may be a combination of the two. When you were under a lot of stress, when you were watching movies on your laptop, and when you used lotion after showering, you were probably more tempted. You must learn to manage your tension by putting down your laptop and discarding the lotion for a time.

Not every trigger can be avoided, but once you know what sets you off, you can devise a strategy for dealing with each one.

 

4, Reconnect your relationships, start dating 

The need to reconnect with people is a crucial step toward freedom that we frequently overlook. We make the error of believing that this will occur only when we have achieved ultimate freedom. Before we can be part of the community, we believe we need to clean up our act.

When we treat a problem with pornography as a modern-day case of leprosy, we further isolate ourselves from the very individuals who may help us recover our identity. Pornography viewing, as well as its addiction, is a covert attack on our mental identity.

Isolation and loneliness should be avoided. These two conditions provide fertile ground for the mind to wander or be distracted by transient things that satisfy our selfish emotional desires.

The desire for sex is a normal occurrence. As a result, rekindling your relationships, meeting new people, and joining a healthy clique can help you overcome your porn addiction.

It could be the appropriate time for you to start dating or get into a romantic relationship. These are quite beneficial.

 

5, Seek help by talking to someone you trust.

Sharing your struggle with someone you trust is the most effective way to overcome porn addiction. This is a potent tool against the shame that might keep us enslaved to our addiction. It’s not about public humiliation or punishment when you tell someone—whether it’s a friend, spouse, parent, pastor, mentor, or therapist.

You don’t tell them so they can be disappointed in you; you tell them so they can help you stop consuming porn and heal from it.

Anonymous confessions aren’t especially useful when it comes to pornography addiction in general. You haven’t really opened the door to freedom in your life, even if it allows you to get everything off your chest. You’ve merely let go of some tension. Telling someone who is a part of your life is all you need to do.

 

6, Pray

If you believe in prayer, pray about your addiction. Seek spiritual help and guidance from your spiritual superiors by confessing your addiction. That is one of the best ways of dealing with porn addiction.
