Gunna links up with grandson from prison in happy video call session
Rapper Gunna does not seem to be getting hit by his life in prison.
While awaiting trial in his high-profile RICO case, the Atlanta rapper checked in with his family. In a clip posted to Instagram, Gunna was seen on a video call with a toddler who is reportedly his godson.
He was beaming as he made jokes with the young boy and his mother. “Sounds like a real player, though,” Gunna said to the child, who seemed amused by his observations.
Gunna was recently denied bond for the second time after a judge agreed with prosecutors and determined that his release would endanger the public and intimidate other witnesses. He is expected to remain in jail until his trial date in January 2023.
The 29-year-old was arrested in May and charged in a RICO indictment that also included Young Thug and other YSL members. According to prosecutors, he is a “documented” member of the alleged Young Slime Life street gang.
Despite his circumstances, Gunna has maintained a positive attitude. In a letter from prison on his 29th birthday, the “pushin P” hitmaker reflected on his situation.
“Despite this difficult situation, 2022 has been one of the best years of my life,” wrote Gunna, who was charged with a single count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act. “I don’t have my freedom right now.” But I am not guilty. I am falsely accused and will never give up the fight to clear my name!”
